Preview Super Bust-A-Move
- By Dan Doll
Bust-A-Move is back for Gameboy Advance. Ubi Soft plans to publish the game this month, adding to Bust-A-Move's portable library that has spanned the Gameboy, Gameboy Color, and NeoGeo Pocket Color.
Developed by Taito, the game stays close to its roots. Players launch bubbles upward from a bubble shooter at the bottom of the play field. When aimed properly, these colored bubbles will stick to the stack of many multi-colored bubbles at the top of the screen.
The trick to winning is to attach like-colored bubbles in groups of at least three. When this happens, these bubbles will break from the stack and fall off the screen. Because the bubbles at the top of the screen are all attached, it is also possible to clear off bubbles that are supporting those below them. The result is a higher score and a sigh of relief as many bubbles come falling from the stack at once.
To add to the pressure, every few bubbles the playing field shrinks in size. The stack of bubbles comes closer and closer to the shooter. If the player cannot clear the field in time, the stack will pass the shooter, ending the round.
The game features new elements to enhance the gameplay over previous editions. These include Giant Bubbles, Metal Bubbles, Mini Bubbles, Rainbow Bubbles, and Star Bubbles. Each of these will affect the stack in a unique way, but the specifics are not yet known.
Players can also choose from ten playable characters. Each character has its own specific bubble attack to use against the opposition when scoring a combo.
To round out the title, two players can go head-to-head assuming they each have a gamepak of their own.
