Preview  Roll-o-Rama
- By Dan Doll [Editor In Chief]

Coming in quietly as an example of GCN/GBA connectivity, Nintendo introduced the new title Roll-o-Rama.

Roll-o-Rama will be released as two separate titles for GCN and GBA.

When played alone on the Cube, players will take command of nearly a dozen on-screen jewels. These items, generally balls, will roll around as players tip the level with the joystick.

The goal is to navigate the center most ball through a maze of obstacles and cliffs while trying to keep as many of the other balls from falling at the same time.

When played along with the GBA, a new version of the game is unlocked. For this mode, players use the motion sensor in the GBA cart to control the action. Tip the gameboy to the right, and the level follows suit.

What's more, if the player's main ball rolls off a level, gamers still have the chance to catch it in the GBA.

An icon appears at the top of the GBA indicating where the ball is falling from. The icon moves from side to side and when the ball finally comes down, the player must be under it to catch it.

Throw it back up and players must then tilt the level to make sure that's under the ball, too.

Through success, players can unlock new jewels including replicas of Nintendo's 3D 'N' and Gamecube logos.

Currently, the game features poor graphics. It almost appeared as if the Gamecube version was a GBA version blown up to fit on the screen.

Despite somewhat psychadelic backgrounds, details and effects were non-existent, and there was little to no polish.

Still, this is a Nintendo game and being so early in the development process, this will surely change.

Roll-o-Rama is scheduled for release mid-2003.
