Preview  Columns Crown
- By Dan Doll [Editor In Chief]

Developed by WOW Entertainment, Sega's upcoming Columns Crown (Advanced Columns) will be the latest edition in the Columns series.

Columns is a game known for its simple, yet addictive puzzle action. Shapes made of three multi-colored gems fall from the sky. The challenge is for players to align the gems in like-colored groups of three or more.

As one would expect, doing so makes those pieces disappear, leaving more room to continue. To make things more exciting, the game picks up in speed as the player progresses.

Another twist on the gameplay challenges players to clear specific, sparkling gems buried inside the play field within a certain amount of time.

Sega has also included new power-ups. These techniques are called Laser, Reverse, and Stop. The effects of these techniques are still unknown.

Columns Crown will offer a basic storyline mode in which an alchemist and a wizard help a princess recover her Spirit Stones. ... No, I don't know what to make of it either, but at least it's different.

Columns Crown is set for North American release February 5, 2002, and will allow two players to compete using a GBA link cable.
