News   Controller Cost Down, Wavebird Release Date Up
- Posted By Dan Doll, 05.14.2002

Seeing as Sony just cut the PS2 to $199, Nintendo probably felt obligated to cut some prices, too. And who are we to complain?

According to today's press release, the Wavebird wireless controller will launch June 10 with a MSRP of $34.95, five dollars cheaper than before.

The controller uses two AA batteries to provide more than 100 play hours. The controller uses radio waves to control the Gamecube from easily 20 feet away, and even behind walls.

By using 16 different frequencies, four players can easily play simultaneously without fear of crossing signals.

Effective immediately, Nintendo has also lowered the cost of its standard controller to $24.95.

Could the console price be next? Perhaps we'll know at E3.
