News   Nintendo Plans on Pikmin to Propel Profits
- Posted By Dan Doll, 03.14.2002

“Nintendo doesn’t believe it can grow the business based on past characters,” says Peter Main, executive vice president of marketing for Nintendo’s U.S. unit in Redmond, Wash. “We’ve got to come up with new ones.” Main declines to say exactly how much money Pikmin cost. “Let’s just say the game is a very big upfront investment and hence a gamble for us,” he says.

According to Jose Pereira in his article for the Wall Street Journal, Pikmin is Nintendo's costliest title to develop thus far.

While that may be hard to believe, it's not hard to believe the rumors that Nintendo plans on Pikmin being its next big cash cow.

Rumors abound suggest everything from a sequel to a television series.
